The event is sponsored by Jewel Resorts and Sagicor, and will be competed over 36 holes and the recently appointed national golf squad will be out in full force to support the event.
The squad is made up of 2012 national junior and senior representatives, as well as specially invited top golfers. This will be the first tournament in which the elite squad will compete as a unit. The revised selection policy of the Jamaica Golf Association comes at a time when the association is looking to improve the standard of local golf and the performance of teams in regional events.
With the National Junior Trials just completed, the selectors will soon be appointing a team to represent Jamaica at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships at the North Sound Golf Club in Grand Cayman. Juniors expected to compete this weekend are Tiana Cruz, Kei Harris, Sherisse Walker and Jack Stein.
Past national team members slated to play are Dennis Atkinson, Robert Chin, Sean Morris and Keith Stein. The event will wrap up the 2012-2013 golfing season, after which invitations will be issued for National Trials. This year's Caribbean Championships will take place in the United States Virgin Islands.
