In this new role, Royal will report to Janice Grant Taffe, vice president, legal and corporate secretarial.
“In this new position I will continue to assist in driving the legal aspects of the investment strategies for the company. For 2013, there are at least three major investment projects which will be rolled out in tandem with the investment division,” Royal said.
“I will continue to provide legal advice for complex matters to all lines of business. There are also a number of initiatives which I will be working on in the area of new product development for Sagicor’s individual life portfolio and our Caymanian subsidiary, and I will assist in the management of legal resources to improve our efficiencies through work-flow management,” she added.
A graduate of the Norman Manley Law School with a bachelor of laws degree, Royal joined the family at Sagicor temporarily on contract as a manager in the legal and corporate secretarial department in January 2000, before assuming a permanent role as legal officer in April 2001.
Prior to joining Sagicor, she served as a records officer, legal assistant and inservice trainee with the Jamaica Citizen’s Bank and as a legal officer at the Union Bank of Jamaica. She also has a diploma in business administration from the College of Arts, Science and Technology, now UTech.
“In high school I concentrated mainly on the sciences, but I realised they were not my first love at all. I guess I was trying to live out a dream I had in my head of becoming a doctor,” Royal told Career & Education.
