Curtis Campbell, Gleaner WriterClarendon-based promotion outfit Icon Entertainment and the Icon Family are gearing up to host Icon sound system's first anniversary on July 27. According to the promoters, Icon's anniversary will be a lasting experience.
Molvin Watson, a promoter in Icon Family, believes patrons will have a reason to sweat come June 27.
"June is like the beginning of the climax of the summer. We want to put Icon's official stamp on this season by making our patrons sweat like never before. So, at Icon Sound's anniversary we will bring musical hotness and a hot entertainment value," Watson said.
The party's theme is 'summer rave'. It will be held at Beckford Kraal School road, Chapleton, Clarendon. Also booked to share in the entertainment is iconic sound system Stone Love.
"Stone Love is one of the longest living authentic dancehall sounds in Jamaica and we want to give patrons some real classic vibe, especially because it's our anniversary as a relatively young sound. All who grew up hearing stories about Stone Love and all who want to rekindle classic memories of the sound system will get a chance to do so at our Summer Rave. Plus, we are from the new school. So, when old school and new school meet, people can't ask for more value," Watson said.
Icon's first anniversary will feature performances from several up-and-coming artistes as well as veteran deejay Macka Diamond. Macka is currently riding high with the success of her Dye Dye.
The dance will run from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. However, Watson said that there will be day activities such as a kiddies' treat, which will be boosted by interactive games and special attractions. The dance will have a designated parking area. The target audience is 18 years and over and patrons are encouraged to drink responsibly.
