Jolyn Bryan, Gleaner WriterThe eastern leg of the LIME Watch Out Fi Dis all-island tour and celebration ended with a bang on Saturday night. A large crowd was treated to entertainment and giveaways by the telecommunications giant at a free concert held at the Rudolph Elder Park, Morant Bay, St Thomas.
The tour was instrumental in marketing the company's new 'one rate' of $2.99, which has resulted from the lowering of mobile phone-termination rates. LIME Jamaica CEO, Garry Sinclair, told The Gleaner that the new rates would ensure that customers got more out of their mobile-usage spending since the new lower rate applies to calls overseas as well as other local networks.
It is expected that $100 worth of LIME mobile credit will allow 33 minutes of talk time, a figure that was reinforced on Saturday night.
MCs Nuffy and Camalla whipped the crowd into a frenzy and kept the energy up as the night progressed with performances by Teflon, local deejays, and dancers and ZJ Ice on turntables. The comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat, brand ambassadors for LIME, also thrilled the crowd, giving away two new Samsung phones during their stage stint.
Travellers sound system preceded selector Ricky Trooper's extended closing set in which he went through gospel, roots reggae, and the now customary closing set of high-energy songs. Among the artistes he played were Bushman, Tarrus Riley, Barrington Levy, Tenor Saw, Supercat, Beres Hammond, RDX, and Konshens.
Audience members were also included in the on-stage fun as some ladies competed in a dance-off, the better ones winning LIME goodies and bags. The LIME dancers were not to be outdone, breaking out impressive moves.
The show was well attended, and along with a free concert on Grange Hill, Westmoreland, was the first of many moves that LIME will be making to sensitise customers to their lower rates.
