Minister with responsibility for Information Senator Sandrea Falconer, told this morning's Jamaica House press briefing that the Stephney Primary and Junior High School in St Ann is to be renamed in Marley's honour.
She said the school was selected as the reggae icon is a past student of the institution.
The Minister also pointed out that for years the school has been benefiting from philanthropic efforts of the Bob Marley Foundation.
According to Senator Falconer, the Cabinet’s decision has been endorsed by members of the community and the Foundation.
For years there has been a local and international campaign for Bob Marley to be named as a national hero, the country’s highest honour.
However, both the Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party administrations have not backed the call.
