For many, the name Pepperseed will bring back fond memories of an era gone and missed, that churned out hits such as Buju Banton's Man a Look You, Spragga Benz's Things a Gwaan and Daddy Screw and Donovan's Big Things. It is this same era that the Pulse Team has chosen to preserve with its retro series, also titled Pepperseed.
With partnering sponsors Fame FM and Pepsi Music, Pepperseed has grown to become a Wednesday night hot spot. The weekly party was introduced as part of Puls8's Total Entertainment package, which also features a Comedy Night on Tuesdays and MVP every Saturday night.
According to Pulse big-wig Safia Cooper, FAME has allowed Pepperseed to connect with the diehard '80s/'90s music lovers as the radio stations weekly Retro Wednesdays theme already has the ears of the majority of Pepperseed's target audience.
Pepperseed features FAME DJs, some of whom happen to be the best mix masters of the era, such as Kurt Riley, DJ Marvin, Colin Hines, DJ Sanjay and DJ Denvo.
Cooper also mentioned that the era of music represented by Pepperseed Wednesdays is significant because of the pantheon of music legends that it produced, including Buju Banton, Spragga Benz, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Whitney Houston, just to name a few.
It might surprise you to know that there is no entrance fee for the weekly event. Cooper explains that the free admission will ensure that loyal patrons have no barriers to the event and venue. No wonder the event has been receiving tremendous support and promises to grow even bigger according to Cooper.
Cooper's most memorable moment(s): "The night we had Bounty Killer perform is one of my most memorable memories with Pepperseed. That performance was probably one of his most outstanding sets in a long time."
Tip: Come dressed for the occasion and don't be afraid to just let loose, dance and have fun. Feel free to sweat.
