Women are seen as the most self-conscious of the sexes. Extensions, wigs, make-up are a few of the elements women use to enhance their appearance.
On the other hand, some men are just as conscious about their appearance, especially their hair.
Several bald-headed men became quite sensitive about this subject, and were reluctant to speak about whether or not they decided to go bald because they were in fact losing their hair. Some, like Marcus Simpsonsaid the bald style was easier to maintain and is also economical, as he no longer had to pay for frequent visits to the barber. Sean Bennett said he wanted to try a different style, and he liked it, and well, the women did too.
For Paul Campbellwho sports a bald head, he never gave much thought to the fact that he was losing his hair, "At first, I shaved off my head because it was not growing in certain areas, it seemed to be the only solution at the time, so I got my hair trimmed low." He continued, "I shaved it off in all honesty just to see what it would look like. It did not affect me one bit. I actually liked it, but it was a big concern for my family. It bothered my sister the most that I was losing my hair, so she bought me hair grower. I tried it, but it did not work. There was no growth because I had not used it properly. Based on the instructions, I really had no time to apply the treatment."
Andrew Brown told Flair that he never once considered treatment and that his solution for his hair loss was to shave it all off. "Hair loss runs in my family, so I decided to do a pre-emptive strike. It suited me anyway, so it was not a difficult decision."
But according to Sandra Samuels-Reid, barber aesthetician and managing director of Totally Male ClubSpa, most men are very concerned about hair loss, "Most men's hairline starts to recede from as early as their 20s, with very few of them actually retaining all their hair. While some just run with it, others see it as a major concern and take it really hard when they begin to lose their hair."
Making the decision on what to do when they begin losing their hair is quite a difficult one for most men. Samuels-Reid notes that like doctors with patients, she has to sometimes convince her clients that the choice of haircut is the best one for them, "At Totally Male ClubSpa, we ensure that men are kept confident, so we give them a haircut that suits the shape of the head.
