"People in Pakistan really love Beenie Man, he is very popular there," according to international Pakistani pop artiste, Annie Khalid.
The artiste recently shot the music video for her single Boom Boom Danze, a collaboration with the Doctor.
Directed by Nordia Rose, the video will feature scenes shot in a studio in Kingston and on a beach in Montego Bay.
Khalid admitted she was a bit overwhelmed by the Doctor's stardom. "I was kinda nervous, to be honest, about working with him because of hiscalibre, you know, and he is a legend, a living legend".
However, the artiste was made at ease by Beenie Man's fun-loving personality.
"He was friendly from the beginning and made me feel really comfortable," she said.
"The experience was great. I mean, on set, he would just make everybody laugh. He was always cracking jokes."
The singer, who resides in the United Kingdom (UK), has produced hits such as Be My Baby and Mahiya, which was used as the soundtrack for the popular Bollywood movie Awarapan in 2007.
She has also been featured in LOOK magazine and is the face of Pepsi in Pakistan.
The song is not a new project. It was leaked on to the Internet unfinished in 2011 but was originally produced in 2010.
"We've been working on it for three years, but we were not quite happy with it," Khalid revealed.
"My management kinda knew his management. He listened to it and he said he really liked it, and said he wanted to be a part of it," she explained.
The artiste did not hesitate to take up theopportunity to collaborate with the King of the Dancehall.
"I kinda jumped at the chance," she admitted.
NO SUMFEST
Originally billed to perform at Reggae Sumfest with Beenie Man, Khalid made it clear that this was no longer possible "due to a clash of commitments here in the UK," leaving her a very disappointed woman.
"I was looking forward to it. It would have been the highlight of my year," she said.
"Hopefully, next year."
Disappointments aside, Khalid was extremely happy with her visit to Jamaica.
"Everyone was so friendly. The food is delicious and the ice cream, oh my God! Amazing," she said, pointing out that she would have wanted to see more of the island.
