Jamaica's Under-21 netballers, led by Shantal Slater's 47 goals from 53 attempts, outclassed hosts Scotland 65-30 to record their second consecutive victory in the World Youth Netball Championships (WYNC) in Glasgow yesterday.
Slater, the most accomplished shooter in the junior Sunshine Girls team in Scotland, netted 15 goals to give the Jamaicans an 18-9 lead after one quarter.
The Oberon Pitterson-Nattie-coached free-scoring Jamaicans, increased their advantage in the second quarter, as they outscored the Scottish girls 15-8 for a 33-17 lead at half-time. They increased their advantage after the break to take a 50-23 lead after three quarters.
Slater received good support from Shanice Beckford, who netted 15 goals from 19 and Thristina Hardwood, who shot a perfect three goals from three tries.
Team manager Arlene Findlay was pleased with the team's efforts, but she noted that they still needed to get better.
"We have to be satisfied because we are two wins from as many games," said Findlay.
"But there are some little concerns here and there because the effort has not been consistent," she said. "They played well in spurts, not consistently well and we have to work on that."
The junior Sunshine Girls will oppose the Cayman Islands in their third match of the championships today starting at 6:45 a.m. (Jamaica time).
