There were five Jamaican winners at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial track and field meet in Warsaw, Poland yesterday, including Carrie Russell, Edino Steele and Christine Day, who were all members of Jamaica's team to the recently concluded IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia.
Steele, a member of Jamaica's silver medal winning 4x400m relay team in Moscow, ran a personal best in his less-fancied 200m, posting 20.39 with a +1.3 wind in his back to cross the line ahead of three-time World Championship medallist Wallace Spearmon, 20.47, of the USA and local youngster Karol Zalewski, 20.53.
In the B final, Rasheed Dwyer also showed impressive form, lowering his personal best to 20.15 to take the event ahead of USA's Ameer Webb, 20.62 and Poland's Kamil Krynski 20.70.
Russell, who ran the lead-off leg on Jamaica's women's 4x100m team, which won the gold medal and set a national record in 41.29 at the World Championships, continued her solid season with a win in the 100m, also in personal best fashion.
The MVP Track Club athlete stopped the clock at 11.01 ahead of her training partner Natasha Morrison, 11.19 and Poland's Ewelina Ptak, 11.57.
Day was a member of Jamaica's ill-fated women's 4x400m team, which was disqualified from the World Championships, but the Olympian made up for her disappointment in Moscow with a 51.80 win in the 400m, with Great Britain's Margaret Adeoye, 52.27 and Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz (Poland), 53.05.
Nicholas Maitland, 45.87 led a Jamaican trifecta to the line in the men's 400m with a close finish ahead of World Championships 4x400m silver medallist Rusheen McDonald, 45.89 and Dane Hyatt, 46.51, who also competed at last year's Olympic Games in London.
Andrew Fisher was third in the 100m with a time of 10.35 behind USA's Mike Rodgers 10.06 and St Kitts and Nevis veteran Kim Collins, 10.19
