VETERAN Master Class shooter Anthony 'TJ' Johnson fired his way to the high-overall trophy at last weekend's Third Woodleigh Fast & Furious Pistol Tournament in May Pen.
Johnson won six of seven stages in the Open Division, cementing his place on Jamaica's team to next year's World Shoot in Florida.
A national qualifier, the event attracted 50 of Jamaica's top pistol shooters, matching skills of accuracy, speed and physical fitness on the seven-stage 150-round shoot.
Johnson stood the test in the Open Division, showing experience and accuracy, dropping one stage to eventual first-place winner, Lennie Moulton.
The Limited Division, which had majority of the competitors, was won by the speedy Andrew Yap.
Stages One to Four were all Yap's, whose only blemish was a second-place finish on Stage Seven. 'A' Class winner Ryan Bramwell took stages Five and Seven, leaving Stage Six for 'B' Class winner Ellesworth Dixon.
The ever-improving Owen Campbell shot consistently through-out to take 'C' Class, and Dane Chang grabbed 'D' Class honours.
After some months of absence from the sport, 'B' Class female Gail McLean announced her return with the High Lady award, ahead of newcomer Dian Williams.
The stages, designed to test competitors' speed and accuracy, featured open targets at strategic positions.
However, this proved challenging to less-experienced shooters, who went for speed over accuracy, whereas lack of physical conditioning accounted for some of the top shots.
Kevin 'Fastfoot' Cheung suffered cramps on one of the stages, affecting his overall performance, as he ended third in 'B' Class, behind Chris Fung Chung.
Woodleigh Shooting Range will next host the Innovative Invitational, Sunday, December 15.
United States Grand Master Todd Jarrett will be a special guest at the event.
