KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Five Jamaican designers will have their work exposed in this year's International Fashion Showcase (IFS) in London, from February 12 to 18, through a showcase dubbed ‘Thread Bare’.
According to a Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) e-letter on Thursday, ‘Thread Bare’ will present the work of five "emerging designers": Dexter Huxtable, Spokes Apparel; Claire Requa, Clairely Upcycled Jewellery; Ayanna Dixon, ASD Clothing; Simone Nielson, Ms. Sim; and Abenah Gonzalez, Abenah Adelaide Designs.
The e-letter said the involvement is a part of the JBDC's effort to recognise opportunities to expose emerging Jamaican designers through its Fashion Incubation programme.
The ‘Thread Bare’ collection will be launched on February 12 at a private function hosted by the High Commissioner of Jamaica in London, Aloun NDombet-Assamba, and open to the public from February 13 to 18 at a Dover Street location in Central London.
JBDC said that the five designers will also engage in a "rigorous schedule of workshops and capacity-building sessions organised by the British Council and the British Fashion Council, in collaboration with various London fashion schools, London-based enterprises and marketing companies".
“This International event is a wonderful platform for Brand Jamaica as it will showcase yet another area in which our country can excel and meet high international standards. It will also allow five talented Jamaican designers the opportunity to reach a sophisticated global audience and to also network with their peers from Europe and across the world,” said NDombet-Assamba.
IFS was launched in 2012 and celebrates London’s position as an international fashion city with a reputation for nurturing emerging talent, said the JBDC e-letter.
