PERFORMANCE: Jermain Jackman
IT HAS been confirmed that BBC Voice UK winner Jermain Jackman will be the special guest for late singer Amy Winehouse’s father’s show at The Hippodrome in Leicester Square, central London.
The performance by Mitch Winhouse, which takes place on Friday (Apr 18), will be the first to be held at the venue as he aims to perform monthly concerts to help raise funds for ‘The Amy Winehouse Foundation’, founded three years ago after the jazz-soul star died from alcohol poisoning.
The Foundation aims to help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and Jackman is the newest rising star to lend his support for the cause.
Following in the footsteps of previous special guests like Joss Stone and Mica Paris, Jackman will perform two songs with Mitch and the band.
After Jackman’s winning performances on the hit TV show, it seems he has wasted no time in following up on his aspiring talks of being an integral part of his community.
The 19-year-old from east London captivated the 6.6 million viewers in the final on April 5, when he won the third series of The Voice UK.
Jackman beat off competition to be named champion of the BBC One show and the soulful Hackney-born singer, who has recently received support from Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, said “people inspire me because of the way they can manage their time effectively and the challenge of selling billions of records or doing loads of films while at the same time giving back to their community.”
Organisers said Jackman’s performance with Winehouse presents a rare opportunity to catch a rising star in an intimate environment.
