ONE hundred and sixty children from seven children's homes and places of safety from the Corporate Area were yesterday treated to a day of fun at the Hope Zoo in Kingston.
The event, sponsored by Supreme Ventures, and which was in its second year, featured an Easter egg hunt, while a few participated in a game of musical chairs, jumped in the 'bouncy house' and even raced each other on the lawns of the Hope Zoo.
MC and host, comedian Elva Ruddock, kept the little ones active as she played several games with them. The children were also treated to face painting and had their pictures taken in the photo booth set up by Freeze Frame.
Guided by volunteers from Supreme Ventures, the children were also taken on a tour of the zoo and got a chance to see Lucas the lion, which brought joy to many of them. They were also excited to see the parrots.
Sponsorship and public relations manager at Supreme Venture, Carlene Edwards told the Jamaica Observer that the choice to do an Easter egg hunt as a treat for the children was deliberate. "During the Easter break there isn't much for the children to do and most of the children's homes usually try to have a little thing for them. Supreme Ventures wanted to give all these little ones the opportunity to have a little fun over the holiday, as well as to meet and socialise with other children," Edwards told the Observer.
She added that the children at the homes were looking forward to the event "and when they arrived in the morning they could not wait to start the festivities".
Supreme Ventures President and CEO Brian George and wife, Keneea, stopped by the treat and had a quick rap session with some of the children, before handing out goodie bags filled with Easter treats to the children.
