A Tale of Two Woman, written and performed by Lisa Jackson, will focus on how emotional and psychological issues can affect the way we look after ourselves, and therefore our health.
We use many words linked to the heart to describe our feelings, from heartfelt to heartbreak, but do our emotions really affect our heart health?
The play, which is being staged in National Heart Health Month, and being supported by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), will also explore health and wellbeing themes around Jamaican and British cultural identity and belonging.
This will reflect the ongoing work of Lisa Jackson, of mon0lisa Productions, whose one-woman company carries the slogan: “Out of one woman many voices.”
She has worked for some time with the BHF, through their Hearts & Minds Programme, raising awareness of heart health within Nottingham’s African Caribbean community.
She has created the lovable character of Patty Dumplin, a large-than-life Jamaican lady who has become a familiar sight across the region encouraging the community to look after their hearts. It’s the first programme of its kind in the UK outside London.
A Tale of Two Woman, named to reflect Jamaican patois, looks at how the love of one man by two different women has taken them in different directions.
