TWO TEENAGE boys have been arrested after a girl from Alabama was fatally shot during a fight that kicked off on Facebook over the weekend.
Kierra’onna Rice, 14, who lived in Mobile, was reportedly involved in a scuffle with a group girls who - according to her mother - had been bullying her on Facebook.
Kierra’onna and the girls decided to meet at a park on Friday (Feb 27) to fight face-to-face, where the fight would be videotaped and posted online.
During the altercation, two teenage boys, 17 and 19, fired several rounds at the 14-year-old.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Two others were also injured, but their identities have yet to be released.
The suspects, Antonio King and Jason Wade, were arrested yesterday morning (Mar 2) and were placed on a $3 million bond.
Police believe one of the suspects was the boyfriend of one of the girls who fought Kierra’onna.
The victim's family, who say they were just recently helping Kierra’onna find a dress for her Spring Ball, are struggling to cope with the loss.
TRAGIC: The 14-year-old's mother said Kierra’onna was being bullied by the group of girls she went to fight
Her mother, Alicia Rice revealed that she was aware of the situation and tried to stop her daughter - affectionately known as Keke - from confronting the girls in person.
“I called her and I said, ‘Go home'," recalled the grieving mother.
According to her mother, Kierra’onna said: "I’m going home Momma."
But she then texted her mother, and said: "Momma, I’m sorry. But I got to fight her one more time, not one more time but I have to fight her and go and get it over with."
Before the fight, Kierra’onna had got in touch with her boyfriend of two years, Javonte Hurst.
"She said ‘I love you so much and I’m going to call you right back.’ But before I could get that call back her mama was calling me and telling me that she was gone,” said heartbroken Hurst.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help pay for the victim's funeral expenses.
Their $10,000 (£6498) target has already been met, with $10,435 (£6781) raised so far.
