Grange, who met with the Chinese Minister for Sports Xiao Tian and his delegation in Kingston yesterday, said the discussions were wide ranging.
“We discussed areas in which we can cooperate and collaborate in the development of the individual athlete. They are specifically interested in us assisting them in the development of their athletes, particularly in the sprints and they also mentioned hurdles. So we have agreed to assist them with coaching in that area where we will send coaches to China, and we will also train their athletes here in Jamaica and conduct coaching clinics here in Jamaica for their coaches as well,” Grange said.
Tian arrived in Jamaica Friday for the discussions and to visit some of Jamaica’s training venues.
“We look forward to welcoming the athletes from Jamaica to China for training and for clinics. We think that both sides have very good cooperation in the areas of table tennis, track and field, martial arts, and gymnastics,” he said.
“We also understand that the track and field in Jamaica is very strong and that is definitely a good area for both sides to work on. Also we would like to offer help from our side for the development of sport in Jamaica in the area of table tennis, basketball, soccer, and gymnastic and some other sports.”
Jamaica had also agreed to assist China in the development of their golf and cricket programmes.
