Slavery was such a lucrative and well established market for the Nigerians that even when slavery was abolished, and the Nigerians were sneaking more captured africans in by ship loads to be sold as slaves, they and the british would often clash at sea. The Arabs would often celebrate by singing and doing traditional dances, while the captured were being paraded wearing nothing while being bartered or sold.
(Not All Jamaicans Were Slaves),some travelled from Africa just to fight for people from their tribes that were enslaved by the british.
Queen Nyabinghi who came from Ghana or Nanny of the Maroons as she was well known as, went to Jamaica as a free woman where people from her tribes were enslaved, and took her own fighters, servants and workers;she was of royal ancestory, She fought to free the Africans from the English slavers in Jamaica, and expressed hope that she wanted to set up herself as a high priestess and leader of her people.
Her other name was Queen Muhmusa or Tahtahme, she's the one that inspired the rastafarian movement also known as Nyabinghi.
Never been a slave;she was an obeah woman,a science woman or some call it magician. She could work tricks and play upon her foes minds like a true warlord. She led the eastern maroons based in moreton and forged an alliance with her brother cudjoe who led another group.
The name Maroons came from the Spanish word (cimarron) meaning gone back to the wild. The Jamaican maroons were the first people to force the English to sign a treaty with their subjects on March/ 01/1738.
They were given lands that formed the basis of their survival, and one of the communities was called Nanny, named after our female Queen and soldier from Ghana. In those days while slavery was still taking place,Maroon country became so feared by the English that it was nicknamed as the ''Land Of Look-Behind''.
So there you have it Jamaicans; You do not even have to travel to Africa to know Africans, because Africans are already in your backyard.
