Apart from being a poet who wrote several sonnets,He is known as the man who surpassed antiquity. He was born in caprese in the 1470s and trained first as a painter and then as a sculptor. In 1496 he went to Rome where he carved the pieta for st peter's.
He worked hard in florence in 1501 but by 1505 most of his sculptors and paintings were left unfinished when he was ordered to Rome to sculpt a tomb for pope julius 11 and might've finished it in 1545. He went on to paint St Michael the archangel, and the sistine chapel with scenes from the old testament bible from the story of noah, and the manchester madonna.
He sculpted and painted for a number of rich people, intellects and religious scholars. He also did paintings of the virgin mary, john the baptists from as early as 1497. Some of his art-work,I'm guessing were from 1480 to about1560.
