Cotterell ... took four for 31.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):Defending champions [color:ab31=blue !important][color:ab31=blue !important]Jamaica have taken a commanding lead over Guyana on the second day of their final-round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship at the National Stadium on Thursday.
The Jamaicans lead Guyana by 295 runs with five second-innings wickets in hand after destructive bowling spells from Sheldon Cotterell and Dave Bernard Jr and a 96-run sixth-wicket partnership between [color:ab31=blue !important][color:ab31=blue !important]Carlton Baugh and Jermaine Blackwood.
At stumps Jamaica, in their second innings, were 183 for five after Guyana imploded for a paltry 96 in their first innings.
The Guyanese had earlier bowled out Jamaica for a first-innings total of 208.
Cotterell exploited overcast conditions to grab four for 31 while Bernard Jr snatched 3 for 18 to engineer a theatrical demise of the Guyana first innings in which five wickets collapsed in the first 30 minutes.
They included Rajendra Chan-drika, Leon Johnson, Chandrapaul Hemraj and Steven Jacobs without scoring, while Assad Fudadin got one on the board as the hosts collapsed to 10 for 5.
Only captain Veerasammy Permaul with a bold unbeaten knock of 49 offered any hope for Guyana whose inept batting continued beyond the luncheon interval.
Permaul , who struck four fours and two sixes, hit Andrew Richardson over backward square leg for 6 followed by a four through extra cover to raise Guyana's 50.
Out for a duck
He then hit Cotterell for six over midwicket to ensure Guyana avoided the follow on.
Jamaica, with a lead of 112, lost early wickets and stumbled to 87 for five in their second innings.
The visitors lost Brenton Parchment for 10, captain Tamar Lambert for 19, and Bernard Jr for a duck before Baugh Jr joined forces with Jermaine Blackwood.
The two revived the Jamaican innings to 183 for five before bad light stopped play.
Baugh, who was unbeaten on 59 at the close, reached his second half-century of the match and 21st in his career while Blackwood was on 41, as Jamaica stretched their lead to 295 with five wickets intact.
