THE infectious beats of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) are taking the world by storm and Jamaica, land of roots-rock reggae, has not been spared in its wake.
Today, a radio show dedicated to the genre will premiere on Linkz 96 FM. The programme, Jamaica In Da House, will air from 11:00 pm to 3:00 am.
According to Italian producer Enrico Lionello, the show will cater to fans of the EDM while showcasing the latest releases and trends.
EDM, often referred to as dance or club music, is a set of percussive electronic music genres produced primarily for environments centred in
dance-based entertainment, such as nightclub settings.
"The radio show will feature the best DJs in the world. House music is a big movement and [on] this week's show, we will dedicate to the late Frankie Knuckles," Lionello told the Jamaica Observer.
Known as the Godfather of House Music, Frankie Knuckles was an American DJ who played an important role in developing and popularising house music in Chicago during the 1980s, when the genre was in its infancy. His accomplishments earned him a Grammy Award in 1997. He was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005 as recognition for his achievements.
His hits include Too Many Fish featuring Adeva and the Whistle Song as well as the reconstruction of dance remixes of Toni Braxton's Unbreak My Heart, Michael Jackson's You Are Not Alone, Lisa Stansfield's Change and Luther Vandross' Love Power/Power of Love.
Knuckles died of Type II diabetes-related complications on March 31, 2014. He was 59.
Lionello, whose brainchild is the online dance programme Enjoy TV, said he signed a deal with the Westmoreland-based Linkz FM.
"It's an initial six-month agreement, but we will extend it based on the feedback and response from the listeners," Lionello said.
Saturday's show will feature well-known dance music DJs including Bob Sinclar, the DJ husband-and-wife team of Anane and Louie Vega, and Defected in the House
