Social media network Facebook was buzzing last Friday night, minutes after news broke that America's latest heartthrob, Miguel, is one of the headline acts on Reggae Sumfest 2013.
The Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter joins an impressive list of internationally acclaimed musicians such as Destiny's Child, Rihanna, R Kelly, Kanye West, Lionel Richie, Usher and Chris Brown who have graced the Reggae Sumfest stage.
The R&B vocalist, well known for Sure Thing, Do You, and All I Want is You, is scheduled to perform on Saturday, July 27, the final night of the festival, alongside Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley and Chronixx. It will be the California-born singer's first performance in Jamaica.
Miguel's biggest hit to date, Adorn, is a sultry, soulful ballad reminiscent of the late Marvin Gaye's smash, Sexual Healing. Adorn was the first track released from the singer's sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream, which peaked at the number 1 spot on the Billboard R&B/Hip-hop chart.
"Sumfest patrons can expect to be wowed by the young artiste's striking vocals and alluring stage presence, while rocking to the sounds of his eclectic LPs," said a media release from Summerfest Productions, organisers of the annual festival.
Colourful Musical Oeuvres
According to Summerfest Production's marketing representative Touchstone Productions Miguel, who has been knighted as the modern day Prince, often blends the rich sounds of R&B, rock, pop and funk to produce colourful musical oeuvres.
Reggae Sumfest, now in its 21st year, will take place from July 21 to 27. Dubbed The Greatest Reggae Show on Earth, the festival is expected to attract thousands of patrons from Jamaica and the rest of the world to its home in Montego Bay. The festival kicks off with its annual beach party on Sunday, July 21.
Early bird tickets for the event's show nights are now available online through Touchstone Ticketing, the official online ticketing partner for the Festival.
The 21st staging of Reggae Sumfest is sponsored by Digicel, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Secrets Resorts, Red Stripe, Pepsi and the Jamaica Tourist Board, among others.
